Well organized and easy to use and read. Sometimes need just a quick reminder of a mobilization and do not want to pull out big book. Easy to carry in pocket lab coat and reveiw mobilization treatent quickly. Good tool for new Therapist. I use it several times a day. A Great Book for the Practicing Astrologer

As a professional astrologer, I was excited and impressed with Using Astrology to Create a Vocational Profile. There are two themes in the book, interwoven into a cohesive narrative. As you would expect, one is about astrology and vocation. With this theme, the author goes far past the simple associations that often make up vocational astrology ("you have Pisces on the midheaven, so you should work in an oil refinery or be a make-up artist"), and really explores the deeper meaning of vocation and how it relates to the chart - and client - as a whole.

The second theme is about how to structure the consultation process. This is something that astrologers say little about, and they tend to work off of the single-session "reading" model - a client comes once, and then perhaps comes back for a follow-up every year or six months. There are clearly problems with that model, which most astrologers would recognize: information overload; one-way communication, astrologer to client; and so on. In this book, Faye Cossar offers a different approach that is not only appropriate for vocational astrology, but which could be adapted for other areas. Best of all, like the book itself, the consultation process she suggests is modular - you don't need to apply all of it with every client.

This book gave me a lot to think about on several levels, a real rarity among astrology books. The author's ideas about structuring the consultation are worth the price of the book even if you aren't interested in doing vocational astrology, but odds are you'll find that vocation is an exciting possibility for your work as an astrologer after reading it. I highly recommend Using Astrology to Create a Vocational Profile.

Excellent practical approach to Astrology and Vocation for anyone who would like a greater understanding of their true Vocation

In her first book astrologer, teacher and founder of the Amsterdam School of Astrology, Faye Cossar, has combined her extensive business and career advisory experience with her astrological skills. The result is an innovative practical and creative book presenting a skillful model of Vocational Astrology which is based on a framework initially created by Career Advisors. This very efficient and effective approach starts with a `non-astrological model - the vocational profile' based on `the idea of defining vocation and putting the client at the centre' rather than starting with the chart. One of many advantages, according to the author, is that it can offer clients `a concrete and tangible product'.

The model is based on three core questions: `Who am I, What can I do, What do I want' with the content of the book clearly addressing how to work with each question. In chapter 2 Faye helpfully outlines ways in which the material can be most easily used for different vocational issues raised by clients depending on their specific needs at the time.

Starting with an astrological interpretation of the clients biography, the author deftly guides us through the subheadings under each of the three core questions skillfully creating a vocational profile that most suits the core self of each client. This for example, includes pertinent questions to ask clients to support them in fully inhabiting the essence of different aspects of their chart. Although multiple famous people are mentioned, Faye focuses throughout the book on an individual client case study which really helps to bring the material alive. A particularly useful section is the one on clarifying/defining blocks making it clear that the task at hand for us as astrologers is to define the blocks and not to work with them. As well as offering us an excellent model which is immediately and easily applicable, this book offers some helpful practical reminders including that the client is the expert on their own vocation and that is often more productive for them if we encourage them to engage more with the tasks at hand rather than doing the work for them. We are also reminded that many clients would often like more than one session with us if they knew that this was available and what it would entail.

This excellent book is ideal for astrologers at all levels of learning who are interested in applying astrological skills to the task of assisting clients to discover and enhance their vocation for the purpose of feeling fulfilled and living a life that is true to who they are.

career coaching with a special touch

I have met Faye at her home in Amsterdam while she was trying to teach me the ways of astrology for business. That part is still a work in process, but with a background in Human Resource Management I could not resist to buy her book on career coaching and astrology. The book is easy to read, also for those not so fluent in astrology. But it does give you, career coach, some extra information. It gives you just that bit of extra that makes you a better coach, but your client for sure a happy client. When I first learned about astrology I had just finished an accreditation course on one of the big five personality profiles. I was surprised to see how similar the two were. I have not stopped reading about astrology ever since. Not being a professional astrologer, but with a big interest in the field, I have found that Faye's book is a must read for all interested in career coaching or astrology!

I am one that is having a hard time in trusting dog food on the market now. I read constantly where pets have been made seriously ill or died from one brand or another. This is unacceptable and I have decided to make my doggies their own food, nutritionally, of course. This book has been of great help and is very easy to follow for good nutrition. I have made several recipes already and can't wait to try all of them. I also add a multivitamin just to insure that they are getting all the recommended daily amount of vitamins they need. Give this one a try and for the price you can't go wrong.

An unusual new slueth

The business of human resources is often fraught with personalities and unpopular decisions. The people that hold these positions must be diligent and knowledgeable, able to make good decisions, often at a moment’s notice.

In Smile Now, Cry Later by Paul McDonald, we meet one such individual. Chuck Restic is in the HR profession and often moonlights as a private detective. His personality is very passive-aggressive based off his real life persona. He uses his corporate skills to solve crimes, which he finds a bit more interesting than his actual corporate job.

His coworkers are often not as caring as he would like, and many of the conversations he has with those working within his company are uncomfortable, but usually necessary. There are sometimes those caught up in circumstances, yet still must be dealt with to keep the company above the law. Ed Vardaresian is one of those, a quiet unassuming man, yet he wears an excessive amount of cologne, which leads to the complaint filed. The accuser is noted for her complaints and the circumstances are those that make it necessary to deal with this issue in a timely manner.

What really creates Chuck’s concern is when Ed, an employee that never calls in sick, disappears not long after his conversation with him. Due to his perceived connection, Chuck determines that he will find out what is happening with the missing employee.

It is here that Chuck gets a dangerous surprise, for Ed is much more than a simple employee. He owns some property and has somehow come up against a billionaire real estate developer as well as the Armenian mob, and his disappearance is decidedly worrisome. His family has no answers and when Chuck digs deeper he finds himself in danger, and that old friends may actually be enemies in his search for Ed. Can he find the answers before another body is found or has his meddling created a murder fest that is cavalcading out of bounds?

MacDonald has given us an interesting private investigator, one that seems unlikely at first glance but quickly wins your confidence. His background in HR is at times a boon, but in other areas a danger. He trusts often too quickly which makes him seem easy. But once he determines the truth, he is like a dog with a bone, digging to find the answers where ever they lead, regardless of the people involved.

The characters are interesting and the mystery is well set, leading the protagonist in directions that sometimes get very dizzying. Yet he sticks with it and keeps you along with his wit and humor.

If you enjoy mystery and people you will find Chuck Restic in Smile Now, Cry Later, a great protagonist. This is a solid work for your library.

Terrific thriller/mystery

Chuck, an HR supervisor discovers one of his more valuable employees is missing and he decides to approach the family under the guise of delivering the missing man’s possessions (after it becomes clear the employee won’t be returning). Upon meeting the employee’s family, Chuck is drawn into the mystery of the man’s disappearance and launches his own semi-investigation which quickly pulls him into an intriguing tale of real estate scams, shady developers, not-so-honest cops, the Armenian mob and a variety of other variables that make this tale a terrific thriller that I thoroughly enjoyed.

I should confess, in an earlier life I had a long career in the commercial real estate business, managed a handful of employees and thus dealt with HR frequently and I grew up in the LA area, so for me this book was incredibly easy to follow – but don’t let the complicated nature deter you, the plot is intricate (and in my opinion educational to those that aren’t experienced in the above), the characters are well developed and interesting and the vivid descriptions through-out the story are well done and accurate.

Smile now, cry later is the first book in the series “Chuck Restic Mystery” by Paul MacDonald, which is Published in January 2015, narrated by Paul Dake. The genre of this book is modern detective.

Chuck Restic is a normal office worker in Human Resources for a large corporation, when a man in his corporation disappears suddenly. Only Chuck’s bad emotional state (his very near divorce) and his free time, made him start looking in this case, where he discovers that this disappearance is just the surface for something much bigger than he could have imagined.

The settings are very real, it screams bureaucracy of corporate America. However, what was really realistic was the characters, they were very, logical, understandable, and cool (and I’m talking about a bunch of NORMAL BORING peoples) ….. Let me take a moment to explain how much I liked the style of the characters in this story (sorry about that, but I have to rant or I won’t be able to sleep tonight.)

So here we have the protagonist “Chuck” who is unlike most heores in detective stories. He isn’t a macho man with all the charm that makes each female sown to the ground. He isn’t a hero with skills in Karate or an expert marksman the likes of a Matrix character. He is a BORING OFFICE WORKER, and you know what that’s okay, he gets beaten up, and threatened, but doesn’t go back to avenge his manly pride, he feels vulnerable, sad, and motivated to help another human being, his only weapon is his knowledge of psychology and HR skills (which is awesome by the way).

The events here are told form Chuck’s narrative point, they are fast paced, but not so predictable as part of the plot, we can see the plot is logical, fun, and surprising.

The narration of Paul Dake was very good at moving along with the events, he showed the suitable voice for each scene, he really could deliver the emotional states and the thoughts of Chuck with ease. However, there were some moments I just laughed out loud, he really did a great job with the story.

Julia, Julia, Julia! There is much to be desired for a Julia Press Simmons book! Sassy was something different opposed to Julia's other works. But her descriptiveness in her characters is at an all time high! Sassy was just that sassified...her vulnerability was put out there, her pain and her desires. Sassy became real to me as all Julia's characters do! She is just too awesome at bringing a scene into your nostrils to where I wanted to puke at the stenches of Sassy's sorrow and untidiness during her heartbreak! That's what a good book is... SASSY! Thanks JP...

It's been a while since I read a book by Me Simmons. Sassy is a fast paced love story that reminded me of why I enjoyed her books to begin with. This is the perfect tale of a catch-22 situation. I can't wait to see what other drama Julia Press Simmons is going to bring back to her readers.

Have you ever found yourself only to lose yourself all over again? Have you ever been so addicted to a man?

Sassy is looking for a new start with her new job. She is ready to take over the world and make her relationship work with Mike. She stumbles onto Vince and that is when the trouble starts.

Now that we have established Sassy and her life, we fast forward and find Sassy in an addicted state. Her mother, Wanda, has come to rescue her daughter. What she finds is not her daughter but a shell spent on alcohol and tears. She does what any mother would and brings her daughter into reality and finds out how she got into her funkdafied state.

Sassy starts her story. She realizes she is being taken advantage of by her current boyfriend Mike, who has been using her. She finally gets the courage to park him on the curb with the garbage. She is hurt but life goes on. She has her new job and a different outlook on life. She's making friends and then here comes Vince. Vince becomes a drug for Sassy and when it hits her this is why we find her in an addicted state to Vince.

Will Sassy get the courage to leave Vince? Will her addiction overtake her? Stay tuned is what we are going to have to do.

Four-star read for the work. It kept my attention and made me remember a time I was addicted. Thumbs up to JPS for giving me a memory back in story form.

Overall this is a nice book on nakshatras and the best thing about it ...

Overall this is a nice book on nakshatras and the best thing about it is how nicely organized it is. For example she gives hints at how each planet/lagna might behave in each nakshatra, nice write ups on some of the mythology/deities,etc.. However the descriptions of how they are functioning I find a bit lacking when looking at charts as her language can be a bit too quasi-mystical/ idealized for me. For this purpose Prash Trivedi's book provides much more practical and down to earth descriptions that I found more useful in actual practice and to learn the basic functioning of each Nakshatra as it relates to human beings here on bhu loka while still getting into the esoterics and mythologies of each nakshatra as well.
It is nice that she goes into some areas that many other texts don't speak on such as using the navtara chakra in prediction and the yonis/sexual compatibility of each nakshatra which are pretty spot on in application. However other areas such as the information on pushkara nakshatra is a bit simplified and plain incorrect on some levels (i.e. not all pushkara planets will act as if exalted, in fact quite the opposite is true quite often). Or when she gets into the nadi nakshatras and only uses the 27 nakshatra scheme which totally throws off their calculations as well as application in reading charts. I might recommend seeking out Sanjay Rath's book on nakshatra's if you want more advanced teachings on how to use nakshtras, though that is not an easy read by any means and can be frustrating for the newcomer but will give a glimpse into the vastness of this subject.
Overall this is a nice introduction to the subject suitable for beginners into the subject, but not the advanced mastery some of these five star reviews are giving it and not treading a whole lot of new ground compared to other texts already available but still a nice addition to a nakshatra collection and reference as you make your way in the Jyotish sea that will give you much to contemplate...

A bit disappointing compared to her other nakshatra book

I was expecting more of the author because I have her other book on this topic, which is much, much better than this one.

She definitely made an effort in creating this book, but it just doesn't add much to the understanding of nakshatras.

Look elsewhere.

Readable, informative, important in the field

I own all of Komilla Sutton's books on Vedic astrology. She explains Eastern or Vedic astrology in clear and accessible language; her books are fun and easy to ready. In this one, she provides great insight into the mystical mansions of the moon. A must-read for anyone interested in Eastern mysticism or astrology.
