Great book, lots of things in one place

A nice textbook of Chinese medicine. Lots of things in one place make it helpful to keep on hand. Covers Primaries (regular),Luos (collaterals), Sinews (tendinomuscular), divergents, and 8 extras. More of a TCM based approach to the non-primary channel systems versus classical, but a helpful book and because of the more TCM view probably helpful for board prep. Includes channel pathology from Nei Jing for each primary. Succinct and pretty thorough.

Very Good Book

First off, this book is amazing. When it comes to Chinese medicine, diagnosing, choosing points, channels of organs. This book is a must have!!!!!!!! The only thing is twice I have had to super glue some of the pages back into the book. I'm still going to give it five stars because the seller personally contacted me to see how I felt about the purchase and was going to let the publisher know about the quality of the other book. Other than that, this is an excellent buy.

The very best for down home New Orleans cooking

La Bouche Creole was given to me as a gift from Leon's daughter in 1991 to introduce me to authentic New Orleans family recipes. The book is interesting reading along with containing simple recipes that create the most outrageously delicious dishes. Follow the recipes! Don't leave anything out. People who are disappointed are changing the recipes to suit what they think is their own style and taste. Having owned this book for over 20 years now, this is the most often referenced cookbook that is used in my household (I live up north now). Over the years I have purchased a half dozen more copies to give to people who enjoy New Orleans cuisine. There is not a bad recipe in this book. Why am I leaving this comment now? Because I am trying to find another copy to buy to give away, and there can never be too many great reviews.
As an additional note: La Bouche Creole II was compiled from Leon's recipes after he passed away. They are not hand picked by Leon. Although still good, this edition is not the high caliber of La Bouche Creole.

Probably the best cookbook I've ever had. It is not an "easy meals in 15 minute" recipe book. However, many recipes are not particularly time consuming. If you like to cook and enjoy delicious results, this is for you.

I had a copy from when it was originally published and watched Soniat cook on TV. My daughter-in-law would always ask me for the recipe whenever she ate at my house. Most times, the dish came from Soniat's book and it is now out of print. Luckily I found it on Amazon and made her a gift of it. This book, to my taste, is still the definitive guide to creole cooking.

Disappointing book for biofilms research

Purchased the book for studying and understanding the biofilms. However, the book is written in a boring way. It does not make understanding of the fundamentals of biofilm research easier, rather it makes the reader lost in redundancy. The book also contains many typos and errors. Techniques and procedures defined in the book contains many missing points, and even some of them are outdated. Electrochemistry is poorly covered, and it is poorly connected to the other chapters of the book. If you expect to learn the basics of electrochemistry, which is important in biofilms research, you will be disappointed with this book.

Herein, Dwight Atkinson describes the written language and rhetoric of the Royal Society of London, based on his analysis of its affiliated journal, The Philosophical Transactions, starting with the 17th century advent of modern empirical science through to the present day. Atkinson adopts two independent approaches to the analysis of written discourse--from the fields of linguistics and rhetoric-composition--and then integrates and interprets his findings in light of the history of the Royal Society and British science.

Atkinson's study provides the most complete and particular institutional account of a scientific journal, which in this case is a publication that stands as an icon of scientific publication. He supplies his readers with important material found nowhere else in the historical literature, including details about the operation of the journal and its relation to the society. The work embeds the history of the journal and its editors within the history of the Royal Society and other developments in science and society. The synthesis of historical, linguistic, rhetorical, and cultural analysis makes visible certain complex communicative dynamics that could not previously be seen from a single vantage point.

Dwight Atkinson, in his book Scientific Discourse in Sociohistorical Context, undertakes an extremely ambitious project: an attempt to integrate quantitative/linguistic, rhetorical, and historical analyses of the Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London, 1675-1975 into a single, coherent account. By all criteria, Atkinson has been fully successful in this endeavor. This book provides detailed descriptions of the history of the Royal Society itself; changes in the rhetorical structure and contexts of PTRS texts; and changes in the salient linguistic characteristics of texts across historical periods. Then, in the concluding chapters, Atkinson integrates these three perspectives, providing us with the most complete account of a scientific journal to date. At the same time, Atkinson provides us with a convincing illustration of how complementary research methodologies can be synthesized to investigate the complex ways in which linguistic, rhetorical, and historical factors are intertwined in the historical evolution of scientific discourse.
