Very Good

I found it very straightforward. The one problem I have encountered is that he just sort of tells you to use a server that has echo.pl on it. If you have no knowledge of PERL, you are totally lost for one chapter, and if you are trying to learn JavaScript, why do you have to stop and learn PERL in order to follow him? He should have provided directions on setting up such a server. I'm using VS 2012 and this stumped me despite internet searches. I would also have liked to have seen more references along the lines of "for further information...."

The book is clear and well written.
It is a great book for a quick refresher or tutorial.
If you need an in depth I also liked JavaScript the definitive guide by Orielly, which I read a few years ago.

Good Book

This book is pretty good. Every two pages have an explanation and an example on how it is used filled with useful tips and warnings.
There are only two chapters toward the end of the book that have prevented me from giving it a 5th star:
Chapter 10 - None of these exercises work unles you can connec to the server that contains "echo.pl" or setup your own server that has a pl file. This book has not information on Perl programming or how to setup a server or localhost server to use a Perl file.
Chapter 12 - None of these exercises will work in my web browser because it "request.send(null);" is considered an error.
Other than these two chapters, the book is a great way to learn JavaScript. This book is probably not for absolute beginners. Programming logic and HTML/CSS experience will help.
