About the Author
Dr Catherine C. McGeoch is the Beitzel Professor of Technology and Society in the Department of Computer Science at Amherst College. Professor McGeoch was co-founder (with David S. Johnson) in 1990 of the Discrete Mathematics and Theoretical Computer Science (DIMACS) Implementation Challenges. In 1999 she co-founded (with Michael Goodrich) the annual Workshop on Algorithm Engineering and Experimentation (ALENEX), sponsored by SIAM. She was Editor-in-Chief of the ACM Journal of Experimental Algorithmics from 2003 to 2008 and currently serves on the ACM Publications Board.

About the Author

Keith E. Herold started working in absorption refrigeration during his PhD studies at The Ohio State University, Columbus. This research focus was motivated by his work at Battelle Memorial Institute, Columbus, Ohio, where he was involved in building and running custom absorption refrigeration cycles under contract to the US Department of Energy, among others. Subsequent to those experiences, he joined the University of Maryland, College Park, where he was the director of the Sorption Systems Consortium, which was funded by various companies. Dr. Herold has authored approximately 50 publications on the subject of absorption refrigeration and his group developed the vapor surfactant theory of mass transfer enhancement.

Reinhard Radermacher holds a diploma and PhD in physics from the Technical University of Munich, Germany, and conducts research in heat transfer and working fluids for energy conversion systems―in particular, heat pumps, air conditioners, refrigeration systems, and integrated cooling heating and power systems. His work resulted in nearly 400 publications, as well as numerous invention records and patents. He has coauthored three books on absorption and vapor compression heat pumps. His research includes the development of software for the design and optimization of heat pumps and air conditioners, which is now in use at more than 60 companies worldwide.

Sanford A. Klein is an Emeritus Professor of mechanical engineering at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He received his PhD in chemical engineering at the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 1976, and has been a faculty member since 1977. He is the author or coauthor of more than 160 publications relating to energy systems. Professor Klein’s current research interests are in thermodynamics, refrigeration, and solar energy applications. In addition, he has been actively involved in the development of engineering computer tools for both instruction and research and the author of the EES program.

Very Good Introductory Treatment

During the first part of the 20th century, Arthur Pink put pen to paper and produced a number of outstanding books that continue to be held in high esteem among many. Pink is famous for 3 main things. First, he held to a very high Calvinist theology. Second, because of the first, he held some highly controversial positions that many Arminians find repugnant. Third, Pink's ability to soak and bathe his views in Scripture are quite extraordinary. It is not at all uncommon to read entire chapters of Pink and encountering a Scripture verse in every other sentence. Such is the case with this particular book.
This book is very short, less than 100 pages. As a result, those looking for a more exhaustive treatment of this topic a la Charnock (whom Pink eloquently quotes a number of times in this book) or the more recent work by Feinberg might be disappointed. However, I'm giving the book 5 stars because even though one could write for a lifetime about the attributes of God and not cover the topic completely, Pink's short work is nonetheless very meaty and is a solid contribution that a number of more recent authors have rightly drawn from in their works.
As is the usual Pink style, he is unapologetic throughout this book in elevating God's ways far above the ways of man, as he believes Scripture does. He is unapologetic about lamenting the wickedness of man generally, and in many cases, directing his most impassioned criticism towards the modern Church for what he sees as the church's coddling of sin, demotion of God to a pleasant afterthought of the human construct, and failing to preach on the unpopular attributes of God such as His wrath. This is not a book aimed at those who want to hear unthreatening and soft peddling thoughts in an effort to feel better about themselves. On the contrary, this is a book that sternly asks Christians to set themselves aside for a minute and examine God for who He is instead of making Him out to be an elevated form of what we see in the mirror. Pink was frighteningly accurate about the mentality of so many Christians who claim to love and understand God while recasting Him in their own image. Scripture plainly teaches otherwise, and Pink's treatment is solid in this area.
Pink's chapter on the patience of God is very good, and His treatment of the immutability of God is outstanding for those who are grappling with the contemporary open theism controversy. Pink wrote before this controversy got legs, but this book along with some others he wrote are quite devastating to the open theist on the questions of foreknowledge, immutability, and sovereignty.
So this book, while not a massive treatise, is nonetheless a Scripture packed analysis that crams a lot of meat into a small book. Excellent for beginners who want to get exposed to these issues without reading a big hardback treatment, and excellent also for more seasoned theologians since Pink has truly emerged over the years as being one of the finest and most impassioned apologists for Calvinism and a high treatment of God in the last 100 years.

This book is a great help for growing into the knowledge and understanding of our Creator's character, which is crucial for Christians to acquire; for growing spiritually (theocentrically). Easy read, also great for referencing. BUT!! Before you buy this work, instead I would recommend getting A.W. Pink's, The Nature of God (ISBN: 0802465714), which can be purchased here at Amazon.com as well. It has this entire book, plus much more.

Beautiful penned story of the ghazal king's life-must have for all fans !!!

This is a beautifully written book and is a must have for all Jagjit Singh/Chitra Singh fans !! The first book on Jagjit Singh was actually a nice coffee table pictorial book called Beyond Time -this was released in 2002 and was contained mostly interviews with people related or connected with him. The narrative style of this book is much better. It has many rare B&W pictures of his family including his parents'. This book seems to be written more from Chitra Singh's viewpoint. It has may interesting aspects about their lives and at times difficult marriage relationship. His human frailties also find mention- his innocent flirtations included !! Of course this does not diminish his stature as a great communicator of melody and emotion.The story of his life is all too human and familiar-beginning with toil & uncertainty leading to meteoric success followed by the depths of pain and then a second wind of enormous creativity. In all probability we will never again see the likes of him-an artist who had trans-generational appeal and who remained at the forefront of ghazal singing & composition from the 1970's to his physical demise in 2011. Many millions of us are lucky to have lived in an era of his music and singing.

A fairly good effort at documenting the life and music of an icon. Some events and incidents don't correctly fit into the timelines described; some names of important people are wrongly cited. These are indicative of deficiencies in research but they may not be obvious to many readers. While much of the material in this volume is rehashed from Jagjit Singh's pictorial biography "Beyond Time", the additional interviews with Chitra Singh and some previously unpublished pictures of Jagjit and Chitra Singh make it a "must own" collectible for their innumerable fans.

J. Ellen Gainor is a professor of theater in the Performing and Media Arts department at Cornell University. She is the author of two books, Shaw’s Daughters: Dramatic and Narrative Constructions of Gender (1992) and Susan Glaspell in Context: American Theater, Culture, and Politics, 1915–48 (2003). Her edited volumes include Imperialism and Theater (1995) and Performing America: Cultural Nationalism in American Theater (2001). She is the co-editor, with Linda Bel-Zvi, of Susan Glaspell: The Complete Plays (2010).

Stanton B. Garner, Jr. is Professor of English and Adjunct Professor of Theatre at the University of Tennessee. He is the author of The Absent Voice: Narrative Comprehension in the Theater (1989), Bodied Spaces: Phenomenology and Performance in Contemporary Drama (1994), and Trevor Griffiths: Politics, Drama, History (1999). He served as guest editor for a special issue of Modern Drama on the topic of Theatre and Medicine (2008).

Martin Puchner is the Byron and Anita Wien Professor of Drama and of English and Comparative Literature at Harvard University. The best collection of modern plays on the market.

This anthology contains the best collection of modern and contemporary plays that you can find in a single volume. There are, of course, some plays that I would like to see added, but it must be kept in mind that these plays are almost all still under copyright. I am impressed that they were able to get the rights to so many great plays and offer them at such a low price.

The introductions for the plays and their authors are well written and informative. They present just the right amount of information for this sort of format. They are not too short, and they do not drone on. I had the pleasure of using this book in a senior level contemporary drama class taught by Dr. Stan Garner, one of the books three editors, at the University of Tennessee. I can say that he is an excellent professor who really knows his field, and though it may be irrelevant in this review, he is a really nice guy.

It would be nice to see the second part of Tony Kushner's Angels in America added in future editions. I also think Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead by Tom Stoppard would be a good choice, I really can't complain.

I had to buy this book for a Lit class I'm taking, but I'm glad I have it. It has plays like Fences, Glengarry Glen Ross, Death of A Salesman, A Streetcar Named Desire, Pygmalion and more. Every play is proceeded by an intro for the author. Great book for reference and goo anthology.
