A POWERFUL DYNAMIC SYSYTEM SIMULATION TOOL

And many more questions can be answered by the technique of dynamic system simulation. The book has ample of examples, is very well written, and is easy to follow.
One's imagination is the only limiting factor in applying the techniques of Dynamo. It could be applied to study farming, ecological balance, impact of wrath or blessings of mother nature such as drought or rain, population shifts, and much more.
For a serious student of simulation technique, I strongly recommend this book.

Not what I expected

Based on the reviews I was expecting a better book. I got the impression this was written by a young author. For instance, all of the characters spend a lot of time 'giggling', which was really annoying as I don't know any women who actually giggle. The irony was that at one point one of the characters actually thinks that 'business women don't giggle'. Also all of the characters speak the same way, there's a lot of 'holy s***, holy crap, geez, and wow's' going on. There's not a lot of substance here, the characters meet, fall in love instantaneously and are both too sweet for words, but they don't discuss the accident or its effect on Jodi, even though these are things that a couple would actually talk about. Then at the 80% mark we have the standard break up over the usual near-end misunderstanding that's then easily glossed over. I kept hoping it would get better, because it had potential, but it never got there. I can't recommend it, this one was too immature for my tastes.

I have read a book that made me feel the way this one did. I cried so hard with Jodi and Sam in the last chapter. When I finally got to the epilogue I was grinning from ear to ear. I hope you continue to bring us stories like this! It was my firsttime reading your work. But you now have a loyal fan

A novel rich in plot and in characters.

This is a great debut novel. It's lead characters are computer geek, Sam Werstler and Jodi Price, a musician. Both Jodi and Sam excel in their careers and are strong somen with supportive friends and family. Sam and Jodi have friends in common and meet when Sam is 'dragged' to see Jodi's band play at a Pride Celebration. When Sam and Jodi meet at an after concert party, the two loners are drawn to each other. Lynn does a good job of showing the pain that can be caused by both emotional and external scars. Jodi has been in a horrible car accident where, after being struck by a drunk driver, she almost died. The accident took her singing voice, and left her with some terrible scars. Sam was dumped by her ex with a cruel note, after the ex had cheated and lied. What the two women find together is very special, but to find happiness, they both must trust, and get past their scars.

Nathan, 14, tries to unravel the mystery of a shipwreck and the captain's murder. With Lighthouse George, a Makah fisherman, the boy paddles canoes on delivery runs to the damp, inhospitable island of Tatoosh, where his father is the lighthouse keeper, and on hunting expeditions for whales and seals. Curious about footprints found on a desolate beach near the shipwreck where all were supposedly lost, the boy explores the peninsula and encounters a shadowy figure brandishing a knife in a dark cave, a nervous local trader burying a small metal box, and a burial "ghost" canoe mounted high among tree branches facing the sea. When the boy's father receives a letter referring to a lost treasure map and the likelihood of foul play in the shipwreck, Nathan begins to piece together the truth. In a climactic scene, he is threatened by the murderer, and Lighthouse George and an eccentric village outcast come to Nathan's rescue. A gallery of good, evil, eccentric, and misunderstood characters teaches him the meaning of friendship and enriches his appreciation of another culture. From the moment he arrives, it's clear that something strange is going on: the captain of a wrecked ship has been murdered, someone is hiding in the caves around the coast, money and supplies have been stolen, and there's a mysterious stranger around. As Nathan unravels the puzzling goings-on, he discovers that he has endangered himself. As always, Hobbs delivers well-developed characters and a plot that never falters. From a parent's point of view, Will Hobbs has another hit

First off, this review will be somewhat biased as Mr. Hobbs was a teacher of mine three years in a row. If the love of reading is a fire, Mr Hobbs is the spark. He kindled the desire to read in countless children during his years as a teacher, partly because he knew us so well, and that is what makes him such a terrific author in his current work- he knows what will get kids to read and keep them reading. My children both read his books, and I read most everything that they read, just to stay in touch with what they are doing. I actually enjoy reading Mr. Hobbs' books as much as they do, the characters are real, the experiences are fresh, and the stories are enough to make me dream of my own youth. I recently moved to the Seattle area, and have explored the area in which Ghost Canoe is set. Mr. Hobbs has done a marvelous job of capturing the mood and mystery of this beautiful corner of our world. His portrayl of the Macaw tribe is true to life (as it was) and helps shed some light on the recent events in their tribe. That alone makes this book a great read for just about any preteen.

With the punch of London's "White Fang" or Gary Paulsen's "Winterdance", Hobbs' "Ghost Canoe" has captured the imaginations of my seven and nine year-old children. The historical and cultural lessons are a bonus for the kids (and me) in this fast-paced action adventure. Indians, war canoes, whales, robbers, shipwrecks, lighthouses and more, it's all stuff kids and their Dad's will love. Having grown up in the Northwest and being familiar with many of the locations, this book was especially fun for me.

Ghost Canoe

Ghost Canoe is an awesome adventure and mystery rolled in to one story. The unique setting and the suspense of the story keep you very anxious to read on. You will never want to put it down! I liked the way the author included the Makah Indian Tribe in it. I also enjoyed the way Lighthouse George talked in the Makah Indian language. "Hyas clutus, Tenas Mac, it is very bad." That was my favorite quote in the book because that is what made Nathan want to go into the woods to look for clues. Also that made Nathan find the canoe in the woods, which was my favorite part. Light and entertaining for those who can read German

It's a fun book for people under 50 or so. An older colleague of mine (also a German professor) found he couldn't relate to the backgrounds or the life experiences of the two main characters, who are teenage boys. Also, I might add that I have an fairly advanced German language student to whom I've "assigned" this book this semester, and he is currently loving it. For those intimidated by the lofty German language of traditional German literature, this book should be an easier read, although you should be prepared for a lot of "youth speak" which will be alien to older readers.
